Jacob Stoltzfus Kurtz
Jacob Kurtz (1867-1923) is our great grandfather on Mom’s side. He was a descendent of John Kurtz who emigrated from Switzerland and settled in Womelsdorf, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Jacob lived all of his life near Morgantown, Pennsylvania. He died at age 56 of Bright’s Disease, a disorder of the kidneys. He left behind his wife, Lydia Mast Kurtz. and nine children, the youngest of whom was 11 years old. Jacob’s parents stayed with the Amish church when Conestoga Amish Mennonite Church was founded in 1877. In 1890, when he married Lydia, Jacob transferred his membership by letter from the House Amish. His parents were Abram (1820-1908) and Barbara Fisher (Stoltzfus) (1827-1894) Kurtz.

Jacob S. Kurtz Death Certificate Great Grandfather Jacob Kurtz died on March 13, 1923, at 56 years of age. He suffered from Brights Disease which is a chronic kidney disease. The death certificate was signed by his brother-in-law, Samuel Petersheim.
