We are descended from Amish immigrants that arrived in Philadelphia from Europe in the 1700s. Family names include Mast, Kurtz, Esch, Stotzfus, Glick, Lapp, King, Hertzler, Beiler, Byler, Yoder, Miller, and others. My sister, Linda, and I have always been interested in family history. We were fortunate to know all of our grandparents and one great-grandparent. Our aunts and uncles have given us many documents including letters, diaries, ledgers, and cookbooks. We have collected family history books and articles. We have interviewed great aunts and uncles. To the left is a photo of part of our collection. What fun it is to choose a box and look through the letters and other documents. We learn something new everytime we look through things together. Earlier this month I was looking through Grandpa Elam's 1922 diary while Linda was looking through his 1922 ledger. Matching up entries in the two documents was like solving mysteries. Right now we are posting diaries on Elam and Rebecca Mast pages. On this blog we will post updates to the website and questions that we have. We welcome your comments and questions.
